"love is not something you experience only once,
and then that's it, there's nothing more to do.
love is something you learn again and again."
-Gurumayi
in Yoga we experience the love of the practice,
and ourselves, again and again.
the Universal Principles of Alignment of the Anusara style
teach us different shades of our practice in every class experience,
through the voices of different teachers,
through the lens of our own past education.
when we begin, we set the foundation
for our poses, our interactions, relationships, work.
where we go from there is the transitional moment,
the opportunity to watch ourselves, to go inside,
and then to expand and grow from our foundation.
this moment is the focal point. and often the most challenging.
in Anusara Yoga, we gather our strength into
one of three focal points in our physical bodies.
we draw muscles onto bones, to the midline,
and then we expand out and express ourselves in the poses
to the reaches of our physical and mental ability.
we've all had a glimpse of maximum precision and freedom
through right alignment.
in our lives we have those moments where we can,
based on what we've created and learned,
draw fully into our awarenesses and consequently experience
real growth in every situation.
it's not just the past, the foundation we've set up, that matters
[we always get stuck here].
nor is it only the future, where we're going with it, that matters
[and the future has its charm as well...].
what really matters is RIGHT THIS SECOND.
quick example (and this happens to all of us, all day long):
walking my dog... rounding the first corner,
already, in my mind, i was in the future, working at my desk at home.
it's these moments that matter.
when i remembered what i was doing, i was less preoccupied
and my dog got the attention she deserves.
the same precision and freedom is sourced from simply being present.
as often as possible. exactly the same as our practice of Yoga.
this is all straight from the oldest teachings of the Upanishads,
scriptures that were formulated at the end of
the Vedic period, about 600 BC.
remain aware of the past, of our foundation, our alignment education,
and the contexts and relationships we've created.
with this awareness, we stay in focus,
fully experience our interactions, LIFE in general, our yoga poses,
reminding ourselves to remain present...
and the FUTURE is revealed.
"by drawing into your own nature, your essence, your potential,
with respect,
you unleash the wisdom of the past to experience
the present as the unconditional release of the future."
-professor douglas brooks
read that one a couple of times.
keep learning, for love is not something we learn only once.
we have many lessons to learn again and again until we really see them.
