Founded by John Friend in 1997, Anusara Yoga presents a unique approach to hatha yoga
in which the spirit of your heart powerfully blends with your precise alignment and balanced action
through asana and meditation. The initial philosophical basis of the practice, continually elucidated
by Dr. Douglas Brooks, is called Rajanaka Yoga.

The word "Anusara" originates from a line in the Kularnava Tantra,
"shaktipata-anusarena shishyonugraham arhati."

Anusara offers a vision that is inclusive of all religious affiliations and requires only a willing heart..

Your yoga practice as scaffolding

Consider your yoga practice
as a structure that holds space for you,
in which you can be as patient and precise as possible
with yourself in your poses, as practice for your life.

Your patience and precision are your truest creations;
providing the conditions for spaciousness internally,
manifesting as trust in your intuition when you can truly listen.

And while the asanas [postures] are of course
what you build within the supportive structure of your practice,
what you do in the interstitial spaces of your day is the real genesis.

"There are only three things you need to let go of:
judging, controlling, and being right.
Release these three and you will have the whole mind
and twinkly heart of a child. It really is that simple."

-Hugh Prather, The Little Book of Letting Go

On February 9th we celebrate
