Anusara Yoga, founded by John Friend, is a unique approach to hatha yoga in which the spirit of the HEART powerfully blends with the precision of biomechanical ALIGNMENT and balanced energetic ACTION in the performance of asanas (yoga postures). The word "anusara" originates from a line in the Tantric text called the Kularnava Tantra, "shaktipata-anusarena shishyonugraham arhati." Anusara literally means to be in the flow, in the current of the Divine, flowing with Grace. The philosophical basis of Anusara, as elucidated by Dr. Douglas Brooks, is called Rajanaka Yoga. |

Greetings VIRAYOGINS If listening is akin to living receptively in your heart, you are cordially invited to a simple practice PRIOR to that listening: sensing your body. In your poses as well as your interactions, pause; sense all of your limbs
for moments at a time.
This seemingly small practice
helps me feel and heal
misalignments in my back, my neck and
my facial expressions, softening every edge.
Remembering to do it is the real work.
We might equate this with OPENING TO GRACE,
prior to thought; a moment of recognition in your heart.
This practice offers a vantage point from which you can begin to truly listen. Put simply, allow the energy of your mind to settle into your body. When you feel challenged, confused, frustrated, shift the focus from your evaluating mind into just sensing your physical body. >From here, you might find your optimal alignment in any moment and actually begin to live your yoga. With gratitude and respect, elena and lynn |
