Anusara Yoga, founded by John Friend, is a unique approach to hatha yoga in which the spirit of the HEART powerfully blends with the precision of biomechanical ALIGNMENT and balanced energetic ACTION in the performance of asanas (yoga postures). The word "anusara" originates from a line in the Tantric text called the Kularnava Tantra, "shaktipata-anusarena shishyonugraham arhati." Anusara literally means to be in the flow, in the current of the Divine, flowing with Grace. The philosophical basis of Anusara, as elucidated by Dr. Douglas Brooks, is called Rajanaka Yoga. |

Anusara Yoga for New York City: May at VIRAYOGA |
||||
may at VIRAYOGA: silent constancy as we've established over the past few months,
most thoughts literally block access to your heart.
recently we've established that
your HEART = CONFIDENCE + INTUITION.
we've also established that these qualities are always present;
we're just being distracted by too much thinking.
so, in order to gain access to your heart,
put attention on a distracting thought. then inhale that thought down into the space of your heart
and finally, just for a moment,
listen to the silence there. [note: particularly effective to do this when
blame is being tossed around, by you or someone else]
as you practice this, you will notice
unprecedented access to your confidence and intuition
in your yoga, your work and your relationships.
as a student observed last month,
"this silent space [of the heart]... is so potent.
glimpses of its constancy are the greatest embrace i've ever known."
this month, practice glimpsing, for moments at a time, via your breathing,
that silent constancy in the space of your heart.
gratitude,
elena, lynn and the virayoga staff
